Biggest Bit of Advice

This quote couldn’t be more true. I can’t even tell you how many times I said yes to something I wasn’t sure of or ready to do, and those moments have brought me the greatest experiences of my life and much happiness.

Such as the times at work I would say “Yes! I know how to do that” and totally didn’t and would google and guess but it all worked out in the end and I looked more expierenced and learned a thing or too.

Or when I said “yes” to going on a boat one sunny August day even though I didn’t want too because I was exhausted from recent travel. Winds up I met my soulmate that day.

And when I said “yes” to South Africa not really understanding what I was getting myself into, and was lucky enough to have had a experience of A LIFE TIME and be one with the animals.

Or when I said “yes” to visiting this girl Chrissy who was living in Italy when I quit my job. Last time I really knew her was in 8th grade! That trip, we fastly became bffs for life and have collected amazing memories together while traveling the world.

When you get the flutter of uneasiness in the pit of your stomach like you don’t know what your about to do…always say YES! The risk will be worth it.

Sweet satisfaction

(Me shoving face as per usual in Italy)

Although I am not one who believes in diets, with summer around the corner (thank god) I have been more conscious on what is going in my mouth replacing most of my snacks or desserts with healthier options that still satisfy my sweet tooth. I do this so that I CAN eat whatever I want on date nights, fun occasions and weekends. I never want the gilt of not going for ice cream….life is too short for that. BUT if I did it every night I would blow up like a blow fish. So…how does one have best of both worlds? It’s called balance. Below are a few of my favorite healthier snack options that I can’t get enough of.

1. Fresh cut strawberries or pineapple with a little drizzle of chocolate sauce, maybe pair it with half a kit Kat.

2. Banana with one tablespoon of almond butter. This is the most filling.

3. Apple with cinnamon. Cinnamon is a game changer in life in general.

4. Toasted coconut vanilla yogurt with strawberries. Make sure the yogurt you pick though is not loaded with sugar.

5. Frozen blueberries.

Book Review: Behind Her Eyes

FullSizeRender-17

by: Sarah Pinborough

I got this book as my February “Book of the Month” from the book club I belong too and holy bananas this book was a page turner! I think I finished this book in two days. I literally was yelling in my head at one of the characters. This book was about a crazy love triangle involving a wife, doctor and mistress who was a secretary. Chance encounters, drama and messed up intentions bring all three together. When you think you know where the story is going or how its going to end, the plot twists! I was definitely kept at the edge of my seat with this one.

Kissing my twenties goodbye

Image: My bff and I for life celebrating one of my twenties something birthdays

As I’m approaching my 30th birthday I’m mixed with emotions. Where the f did the time go!? I was having a conversation with my older sister the other day on how I wasn’t sure I was ready to be 30, I’m not mature enough, and I feel like I should be turning 22. She said, ” I know, but think about the person you were at 22…your not the same girl”. As per usual, my brilliant sister is right (shocker). Not that I was a bad person at 22, I was just different. Lessons have not been learned and I was in a totally different space. At 22 my biggest problem was getting to work on time and where I was going out that night…Oh and what Chanel bag I was saving for.  My twenties have truly been a blast. I have had some of my best moments, many scary moments and tons of heartbreak with guys. It was all worth it because it made me who I am today, happy and healthy, both physically and mentally. If I could go back in time I wouldn’t change a thing, to me that means I did it right.

Things I would tell my younger self:

1. Your doing a great job at having fun. Keep it up because when you hit 28 your not going to be able to keep your eyes open past 11pm or have 10 Red Bull vodkas and be able to get out of bed the next day.

2. Your doing a fantastic job at never settling in life, whether it be with guys friendships or jobs. You know your worth and keep on trucking.

3. You will understand at a young age the importance of your health and that without it you have nothing. Never take it for granted and take care of yourself. Oh and where SPF!!!

4. Life is short eat the cookie.

5. You will thank all the boys who gave you heartache in your life, every tear you shed, every awful thing that came your way. All the bullshit you had to deal with from the stupid dating websites you were on, all the lies and all the creeps. All of these boys are not for you, that’s why they have to be so mean, because if they loved you back like you loved them, you would have never met Steve and you would have never had a chance to truly find yourself, alone, in Bali away from everything and everyone. Steve is going to come don’t worry and you will be happier then you thought you ever could be. It’s the real deal. He’s literally a real life prince who will make you feel adored every day and treat you like the princess you really are. He will arrive on a shiny boat called the Pinapple Express and cook you all these fabulous meals and make you laugh until you cry, not cry until you laugh. He will bring you pizza and wine and books and hand made cards, he will smell nice and take you to Christmas Tree Shop because he knows you love trinkets.  He will love you like he’s never loved before and it will show. His actions will match up with his words.

6. You will want kids one day because this little munchkin Elle is going to come into this world and flip your life upside down. People will tell you she’s your niece but she’s really connected to your soul and you feel as if she’s yours. You may even tell strangers when you two are out for your walks the first 6 months of her life that yea she’s yours… and that’s ok! You will feel a love and bond so tight, you will just want to be with her night and day. She comes first! You will be crazy auntie CC one day and it will be one of the most important roles of your life. You will doubt if you could ever love your own child like Elle, people say you will but You find it doubtful, but at least it will make you finally want kids of your own. We’ll see!

7. You will realize that your quality of life is more important then any BMW or Chanel bag. You will actually sell some of your collection to fit the bill for some of your travel adventures. This fashion career is not for you, sorry your just not one of them. Your not a quitter but quit this one sooner rather then later. Your going to have a career where you help people. You will finally feel fulfilled with the job you do, but only if you take the risk of leaving the one you hate and starting over. Your never to old to start over. You will realize that you want to live a life of passion. Work to live not live to work. Forget societies way of life and make your own rule book. Who says you need a job with benefits or a 401k or be married with kids at 30? Take your sweet time. Work hard and do what you have to do to pay your bills, be responsible and live your life. Never ever do something for money, do it for passion and you’ll see how happy you will be.

8. You will loose some friendships but that’s ok. Sometimes people grow apart but you will always honor all the good times you had with those people. Sometimes people are not meant to stay in your life forever, sometimes they are just meant to get you though moments. You will though remain friends with most, and these people will be so good to you and you guys will always have the best times ever. You will support each other through thick and thin and embrace changes in life together.

9. It’s ok to be super attached to your family and want to live with mom forever. If anyone judges you they are just jealous your moms the coolest! 😉

10. Your truly going to learn so much about yourself and what you can do. In the beginning of your twenties you were full of the phrases “oh I could never do that” but by the end of your twenties your going to be saying “well if I survived the bugs in Bali I can do anything in life.” Your going to travel all over the world and majorly push yourself too your limits and set new limits and overcome fear over and over again. Your going to embrace the challenge of life and appreciate it’s beauty. Your going to have friends from all over the world and have experiences most will never get to experience in their lifetime.

Lastly, don’t worry hunny bunny, life is gonna be gravy. Every time you think you are being rejected from something good you are just being redirected to something better. To everything I have ever lost…thank you for setting me free.

A Magical Island Called Ischia…

Traditionally, every year my friend Chrissy and I go on a short weekend getaway to the southern part of Italy. This year she surprised me by taking me to a tiny little island off the  Amalfi Coast called Ischia. We flew into Naples via Meridiana. Meridiana usually has great deals for direct flights. One bus ride later and a scenic ferry ride brought us to paradise.

14670739_10210870102371533_7273391142017762377_n

First on the list… Castello Aragonese, a medieval castle that connects to Ischia, which was built in 474BC.  The views from the top were just stunning. Chrissy knows my obsession with castles so of course she picked a B&B that was directly across from it so we could have endless views of the castle, and see all its beauty it had to offer morning, noon and night. Villa Lieta was the name of the B&B which was super cozy and the staff was amazing.

14670701_10210870562903046_8494078185511933523_n14666206_10210870563703066_5476163032874383287_n

After seeing the castle, and getting settled in, we walked around the charming town, shopped, and even saw the cutest wedding ceremony set up. We relaxed on the beach before indulging in coconut gelato (the best ever), and the first of many before getting ready for our romantic dinner date.

picmonkey-collagepicmonkey-collage3We took a tiny fishing boat from the dock across the street from our B&B at dusk that takes you over to this restaurant Gardenia Mare, which is attached to the most beautiful hotel. It was breathtakingly beautiful.  Everything we ate was delicious … even the shrimp staring me in the eye (LOL).  I would come back to the island just to eat here. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.

The next day we took advantage of free breakfast with our stunning view from the roof top of the B&B. We then took the bus over to Sant’ Angelo, walked around the town and relaxed on Banana Beach. We finished the day off with the perfect lunch consisting of my favorite thing on the Amalfi Coast…mussels!! They are super fresh and only seasoned with pepper. Even if you do not like mussels you have to try them. You will not regret it, I promise. We then moseyed on back to our B&B stopping for gelato, of course, and got ready for a relaxing dinner with a view of the stunning castle.

picmonkey-collage1picmonkey-collage2picmonkey-collage314721550_10210870192093776_4300326137375958746_n14666307_10210870194533837_3881587140649167440_n14642188_10210922021309474_8957773913303171293_n

Travel Tip: When you book B&B’s in Italy, most places include free breakfast consisting of coffee, water, juice, and pastries. I am not one to eat a lot in the morning but to keep traveling expenses down so I definitely take advantage of this – plus the Cornettos (breakfast pastry usually filled with jam, nutella or chocolate) are TO DIE FOR!

The next day we were up at dawn, traveling back to Naples to catch our flight home and got to see the city at the most beautiful time.  The local fisherman just came back with their catch, and locals were starting to line up to purchase their fish for the day. This tiny island truly was paradise and full of charm.  It reminded me of the setting from “The Little Mermaid”.  I am sure this is where Arielle is from 😉

One of the proudest moments of my life

Below is a journal entry from the day I graduated from my Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training and I smile every time I read it. Just a little reminder that we can do anything we put our mind too. Give yourself more credit. Breathe through your fears….and love yourself.

February 15, 2015:  I have never in my life worked harder at anything then this. It was not just about physical strength on a mat doing fancy poses. It was the chain of events that brought me to this moment. Moving, leaving my career for the unknown, facing fears of going to a far away place away from all of my loved ones. Can I really do this physically and mentally? I’m older I should be thinking about settling down and most importantly facing the same question everyday…WTF am I doing with my life. Well it was worth it. I have pushed my body physically when it would not move, mentally when I could not think and embraced the unknown with open arms. I would not have been able to do this without the love of my family, friends, yogi family here in Bali and all my amazing yoga teachers in my life. Most importantly I realized here none of this would be possible without the love I have given myself for being brave and taking the biggest leap of faith to follow dreams..not ideas. Thank you to my teachers for bringing that out in me.
