A Magical Island Called Ischia…

Traditionally, every year my friend Chrissy and I go on a short weekend getaway to the southern part of Italy. This year she surprised me by taking me to a tiny little island off the  Amalfi Coast called Ischia. We flew into Naples via Meridiana. Meridiana usually has great deals for direct flights. One bus ride later and a scenic ferry ride brought us to paradise.

First on the list… Castello Aragonese, a medieval castle that connects to Ischia, which was built in 474BC.  The views from the top were just stunning. Chrissy knows my obsession with castles so of course she picked a B&B that was directly across from it so we could have endless views of the castle, and see all its beauty it had to offer morning, noon and night. Villa Lieta was the name of the B&B which was super cozy and the staff was amazing.

After seeing the castle, and getting settled in, we walked around the charming town, shopped, and even saw the cutest wedding ceremony set up. We relaxed on the beach before indulging in coconut gelato (the best ever), and the first of many before getting ready for our romantic dinner date.

picmonkey-collagepicmonkey-collage3We took a tiny fishing boat from the dock across the street from our B&B at dusk that takes you over to this restaurant Gardenia Mare, which is attached to the most beautiful hotel. It was breathtakingly beautiful.  Everything we ate was delicious … even the shrimp staring me in the eye (LOL).  I would come back to the island just to eat here. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.

The next day we took advantage of free breakfast with our stunning view from the roof top of the B&B. We then took the bus over to Sant’ Angelo, walked around the town and relaxed on Banana Beach. We finished the day off with the perfect lunch consisting of my favorite thing on the Amalfi Coast…mussels!! They are super fresh and only seasoned with pepper. Even if you do not like mussels you have to try them. You will not regret it, I promise. We then moseyed on back to our B&B stopping for gelato, of course, and got ready for a relaxing dinner with a view of the stunning castle.

Travel Tip: When you book B&B’s in Italy, most places include free breakfast consisting of coffee, water, juice, and pastries. I am not one to eat a lot in the morning but to keep traveling expenses down so I definitely take advantage of this – plus the Cornettos (breakfast pastry usually filled with jam, nutella or chocolate) are TO DIE FOR!

The next day we were up at dawn, traveling back to Naples to catch our flight home and got to see the city at the most beautiful time.  The local fisherman just came back with their catch, and locals were starting to line up to purchase their fish for the day. This tiny island truly was paradise and full of charm.  It reminded me of the setting from “The Little Mermaid”.  I am sure this is where Arielle is from 😉

My remedies on healing a broken heart:

image1.jpg

This is something every person on the planet can relate too. We have all had our hearts broken. Whether it was an ex lover, loss of a person, or health wise such as a heart attack or any other cardiovascular illness we have all had that gut wrenching pain in our hearts where it hurts to breathe. Below are a few tips for those looking to turn their frowns upside down. Because in reality, there is no greater feeling than to be loved and to love in return.

1. Carry a rose quartz crystal everywhere with you! Known as the “love stone” this pink crystal has powerful energy that resonates with the heart chakra. The heart chakra is responsible not only for the love of other people but it is responsible for the love we have for ourselves.  This crystal has a powerful effect on healing your emotional state and aiding in relationship problems by producing peaceful and calming sensations that help dissolve anger and resentment helping us feel compassion and forgiveness. I typically carry my stone in my pocket book and use it during mediation and yoga. You can also wear the crystal around the neck that way the energy of the crystal will resonate out into your whole aura. I personally got my stone from the dessert in Australia but you can get the stone anywhere. I recommend this site as well.  http://www.crystalhealingshop.com

2. Rose oil: Apply topically to the temples during mediation or any heart opener pose. Apply some to the wrist as well to keep you balanced throughout the day. Rose oil boosts self esteem, confidence and mental strength. It also relieves anxiety. Not only will you have a happy heart and mind, its light sweet scent will make you smell good too. Any natural rose oil will do but I am OBSESSED with my Young Living Rose oil and highly recommend it. Not only can you use it for balancing your heart chakra and healing your heart,  but it is perfect for dry or aging skin. If your interested in ordering send me an email: ccolombino43@gmail.com.

3. Meditation: Don’t be afraid to sit with yourself and your thoughts. Choose a mantra that is different every day. “I will forgive XX,” “I will let go of XX” “This no longer serves me” I am open to love”  are just a few affirmations you can chant silently while meditating.

4. Heart healing bath….(wine suggested but optional) A good soak in the tub can always wash away any negativity and help calm the mind. Plus, you’re pampering yourself! Not only does this help with balancing the heart chakra but your skin will feel nice and soft and will release and toxins by the use of the Epsom salt.

1/2 cup of sweet almond oil

10 drops of rose oil

Little bit of Epsom salt.

5. Reading: When one is going through a difficult time, sleep may not come easily. Laying in bed going over painful thoughts in your mind over and over…it can be a nightmare! Reading has helped me personally with sleep and escape from painful realities if I was going through a tough time. Before bed, put all electronics away including social media. Pick up a book and read until your eyelids can’t stay open any longer. I suggest investing in a book light so you can read with the lights off and not have to get out of bed to turn them off.  ( Unless your fancy and have clap on clap off…Always wanted that!! ) Anyhow, Reading is a way to loose yourself in a fairy tale world which sometimes we need to do. It is also a great way to learn. Learning is a huge way to better ourselves. Learning a language, a background, a point of view…anything. It makes you well rounded and cultured. It will also inspire you. Inspire you to be a better person, and give you ideas on future adventures. Reading every night before bed is still part of my routine. It’s something I can’t get enough of and look forward too at the end of my day. One day, I will have a library in my home imitating the one from Beauty and the Beast with the ladder and all. I will have a circle tufted ottoman that I lay on and read books all day everyday. Thats my fairy tale 😉

6. Practicing forgiveness: Forgive the person who has wronged or hurt you. Make peace with it. If you try and “get revenge” the person who will suffer in the long run will be you. Being rejected is one of the worst feelings in the world. This takes time and this takes work to get over. Acting like you are at peace and happy one day and then acting mean and bitter the next day is not proving anything positive. You may be able to fool other people but you will never be able to fool yourself.

7. Remember: “TIME HEALS ALL”. This is something that I have always said and live by. Each day that we face the pain, it will get smaller and smaller as the days pass on. Relax and breathe. You are loved.

5 things Yoga has taught me:

  1. Honor your body: This is one that I am most proud of. Our society seems to be obsessed with achieving the perfect body….But what is the perfect body? It is a personal preference and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I’ll tell you what my idea of a perfect body is…a healthy and happy one.  I have stretch marks on my hips, a little bit of cellulite, a mini roll (that I’m saving for later…get it)? when I sit and scars all over my body from my invasive Melanoma which left me scared not only physically but mentally as well. No, I do not have a six pack, perfectly perfect skin or huge boobs……BUT I can tell you what I do have.
  • Two eyes that have seen some of the most amazing sunrises and sunsets all over the world
  • Two arms that are able to wrap around all my loved ones giving them the biggest cuddles
  • Two legs that have taken me to some of the most amazing places all over the world and walked out of fears path
  • Wrinkles forming around my eyes showing off all the laughing, smiling and sunshine I have gotten over the years
  • Oh and a nice booty that is nice and full to support my sitting in a lounge chair eating and sipping cocktails in the summer all day habit 😉

So what if I don’t have abs? I enjoy food WAY to much to ever say “I can’t have that”. My hearty appetite has led me to eat all different kinds of food all around the world which plays a huge part in experiencing other cultures and have gained friends from all around the world because of it. So what I have scars? They show your strength and add character. So what if I have a dimple here or there…I embrace my curves. I do not see these things as imperfections. This is real. This is me. If you don’t like don’t look. At the end of the day my point is this, I want to live in a healthy body and have happiness pouring out from my roll (insert crying laughing emoji) How we feel about our bodies is an inside job. Yes, it helps that a special someone has come into my life and reminds me every single day that I am the most beautiful sexy person ever but I felt confident and secure before him. People can come and go in your life but how you view yourself is all that matters. No one can take that from you. Use your body to its fullest potential and stop focusing on what it looks like.

2.  Let go of things that no longer serve you: It’s just as simple as that. It’s not easy to let go, but it is much more painful to try and hold on to something that wants to pass. I accepted that I no longer was meant to be a fashion publicist. The change and adjustment was hard but I honor the moments I was in it and look forward to the future. This also goes for our relationships. Sometimes we are not meant to be friends with every person that has touched our lives forever and for always. Embrace the good moments you have had and lightly let them go. No need to be mead when doing so. At the end of the day, do what makes you happy and never dwell on the past. Trust the universe. Everything happens for a reason. I know this for a FACT!

3. Breathe: Before you respond to anger, hurt, sadness….breathe. Is it really what you want to say? How do you really feel?  Our words have a way of staying with people so never try and say something just to hurt someones feelings just because we are hurting inside. When you are facing fear in the face….breathe. All will be ok in the end. When your stressed and having a bad day….breathe, someone else is having a worse day then you. When you get a delicious meal….breathe….for you know in a few moments when you devour it you will have to open your button on your jeans….or is that just me? Our breath is very important. It helps calm the mind and keep us sane.

4. Be present…and ok with it: Sometimes in life, we can get so caught up in it that we forget what we have in front of us. Never dwell on the past, it is what it is and you can only learn from it and move on. Every experience we have good and bad is meant to teach us something. No one is perfect…NO ONE. (except for boo boo ba ba head…my niece) Don’t worry too much about the future, it is not here yet so you don’t know what your cards will be. Focus on now. How you feel, how you love and what your grateful for, because things can change at a drop of a dime.

5. You can achieve more than you think: This is another big one. In the last 4 years I have overcome so many fears its kind of insane. Yes I am known to hop on a flight at any given moment and am a world traveler. Yessss. BUT I was super afraid of planes and still am!! Like super super! When I was sick I looked back and said to myself, what have you done with your life? What have you achieved? A ton of designer things didn’t count….Didn’t make me feel good. I promised myself then and there that if I can overcome this I WILL 100% live life 100% of the time. Money, time, a person or FEAR will not hold me back. I want to see places people read about but never visit. And the glorious thing is I have and then some! Experience is far more valuable then money ever will be. Another fear….bugs. All my Bali peeps can attest to this. But I managed to sleep and live with bugs the size of house pets and came out of it just fine….kinda. What I am trying to say is we can do whatever we really want to do. Just breathe and move through it one step at a time. What’s the worst thats going to happen? Like I say to my students every class…”I am powerful, I am strong and I am loved”.

xoxo
